Welcome to The Presbytery of Edinburgh & West Lothian website. Here, we aim to provide a central point for information and resources on The Church of Scotland Edinburgh and West Lothian Presbytery, representing Edinburgh and West Lothian churches and church committees.

Presbytery is the gathered life of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh. Its work is part of the ecumenical Christian witness in our city.

Business

The remit of the Business Committee is to order the business of Presbytery meetings and to deal with all matters not otherwise within the remit of a particular committee. The Business Committee Convener is The Very Reverend Dr Derek Browning.

Faith Nurture

The Faith Nurture Committee takes a lead role in developing and maintaining an overall focus on mission and discipleship. It develops and promotes policy, strategies, resources and services in the areas of Christian education and nurture, children’s and youth ministry, intergenerational ministry, outreach to students, elder training, worship and outreach.

Faith Impact

The Faith Impact Committee’s remit is to keep a watching brief over developments in the life of society, with particular regard to issues affecting the lives of people in Edinburgh and West Lothian, and recommend what action Presbytery, mission districts or congregations might take as well as promoting, developing and encouraging best practice in school chaplaincy and religious observance in state schools and bringing important issues affecting the World Church to Presbytery’s attention.
