The Church of Scotland is looking for someone to work with individual congregations, to help them to negotiate transitions at key points in congregational life, through worship, pastoral care, workshops, and the focused addressing of issues identified by congregations, Presbyteries and Faith Action, in congregations following long ministries, ministerial ill health, conflict, or other challenges.

The Pastoral Assistant will collaborate with the minister and other staff, supporting our District Elders and Pastoral Visiting Team. They will provide pastoral care to our congregation and the local parish community and contribute to worship services focused on an older age group. The job involves taking congregational and parish funerals and bereavement care.

The duties include playing the organ at Sunday worship and on other occasions as required by the Kirk Session and liaising with the minister in the development of use of music within worship. You will also be responsible for co-ordinating the worship contributions of the choir. This will include rehearsing on Thursday evenings and for ½ hour prior to Sunday worship.

Your task will be to ensure that we have efficient and effective administrative support for the church’s many and varied ministries, and that the office continues to be a place of welcome and appropriate response.  You will be a key point of contact for people from the congregation, community and beyond. You will be part of a staff team and wider team committed to proclaiming Jesus, fostering wholeness and serving others.
